Take the wheel at QCity Transit

QCity Transit is on the lookout for new employees to get behind the wheel of their fleet of buses and coaches in and around Queanbeyan. We’re searching for part-time employees to join our team, offering flexibility and a bit of fun along the way!

Depot manager Stewart Radcliffe said the ideal candidate is someone with good customer service skills and a focus on safety. “We’ll teach you how to drive buses safely and capably; the next big thing is customer experience,” Stewart says. “We often have people who have a career change. We find that people who come out of caring or support roles often have a really good demeanour for a bus driver because they can communicate well with people. We offer training from C Class licences”.

General Manager Regional NSW/ACT, Andrew Fogg said the organisation, part of ComfortDelGro Australia (CDC), was on the hunt for enthusiastic locals who are keen to earn a solid income, 20+ hours a week, during school term – a role that often suited semi-retirees or those looking for a flexible lifestyle.

“Whether you’re a small business owner, a part-time worker with flexible hours or simply looking for extra income as you approach retirement, you’ll join a family of drivers of all ages and stages, who love what they do. All you need are great customer service skills, a car licence, and a good driving record, and we’ll help you with the rest,” he said.

“It’s a nice friendly environment because Queanbeyan’s still got a ‘country town feel’ about it. You know all your passengers, you get to know the regulars, I’ve been working here for 20 years … you try to help out the customers the best you can, you go out of your way where possible. You’ve got to be a people person; you’ve got to be able to communicate well.”

- Joe Mikola,
QCity Transit bus driver

“I started working here in 2000 … It’s a beautiful place to work; it’s a ‘family’ organisation. The people that catch the bus, they are lovely people in Queanbeyan and Canberra.”

- Fala Faatamala,
QCity Transit bus driver

QCity Transit is recruiting for bus drivers, like Karyn Cook (pictured), for part time work.

The QCity Transit team is like a family, and drivers are encouragedto foster community connection.

“The work environment is a bit of a family. At this depot we all know each other, there’s been people around for a long time here, there’s a bit of fun to be had along the way,” Stewart said. “We’re pretty connected with our community, so getting out amongst the community and engaging with them is really important, and we do expect that of our drivers as well.”

A ‘typical’ work day for a part-time driver would see recruits take a school bus route in the morning and afternoon, on a split-shift basis, with a potential charter route in between. “If someone’s looking for a good work-life balance with a great bunch of people, it’s a really good fit,” he said.
